Virgo is the largest and one of the few feminine constellations in the sky. It is said that in the Golden Age of Virgo, the Goddess lived upon the Earth among humankind. She is often depicted with wings and carrying sheaves of wheat, suggesting harvest, connection with nature and angelic status. With increasing corruption, greed and ignorance (read separation) of humanity, Virgo could no longer remain on Earth and returned to the heavens to live among the stars.
Virgo stands for purification, discernment and perfection of the self in order that it might be of the highest service. It has a particular association with health, nature, routines and systems, always aspiring to improve and perfect. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo can excel in analysis, detail, thinking things through whilst also able to conceptualise the wider picture. Virgo can be weighed down by nerves and worry and a tendency to overburden the self, often working unrecognised behind the scenes.
Mars in Gemini (also ruled by Mercury) squares this new moon increasing mental activity and inspiration. Mars seeks action and focus, Gemini seeks variety and can scatter its energies. The square to Sun and Moon in Virgo offers creative tension to rethink our routines, health habits, connection with nature and to be more discerning in our thinking.
What are we creating with our patterns of thought and beliefs? How might we improve, update or transform our mental habits and activity towards an environment where the Goddess Virgo might deem Earth worthy of another visit?
